The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)®, Version VI, evaluates areas that are essential for academic success in nursing programs. This computer-based, multiple choice exam is divided into four sub-tests:

  • Reading (53 questions/64 minutes) – Key Ideas, Craft & Structure, Integration of Knowlege &  Ideas
  • Mathematics (36 questions/54 minutes) – Numbers & Algebra, Measurement & Data
  • Science (53 questions/63 minutes) – Human Anatomy & Physiology, Life & Physical Sciences, Scientific Reasoning
  • English and Language Usage (28 questions/28 minutes) – Conventions of Standard English, Knowlege of Language, Vocabulary Acquistion

Total test time is 3 hours and 48 minutes (209 minutes). You should allow approximately 4 hours for the total appointment time which includes time for the check-in process and exam instructions.

The TEAS exam registration fee is $93.00. Registration fees are non-refundable.

Special Accommodations

To receive disability accommodations you must be registered with the ASU Disability Resource Center and be approved for special accommodations. Please do not register for a group testing time. Individual testing arrangements must be made with the Program Coordinator at University Testing and Scanning Services by calling 480-965-7146.

Reschedule a Test Appointment

Transfer of a test fee to another test date can be made under the following conditions:

  1. Space is available on the requested test date.
  2. All transfers must be made ON or BEFORE your originally scheduled exam date.  After the originally scheduled exam date the full registration fee will be required in order to test.
  3. To transfer the test date, call or come in to the testing services office and pay a $15.00 transfer fee with a credit card.


Applicants are allowed one attempt at the TEAS per application cycle, unless a failing score below 58.7% is earned.  If a student earns less than a 58.7% one retest is permitted, but the student must wait a minimum of 30 days between tests, and the second attempt must be before the application deadline. 

Application cycles are defined as:

  • February 1 – August 31 (for September 1 deadline)
  • September 1 – January 31 (for February 1 deadline)

Failure to comply with these restrictions will result in the cancellation of your test results and forfeiture of your entire exam fee.  Scores are valid up to one year from when a student took the test.  Students must confirm with their academic advisor whether a TEAS score will be valid. Prior to Arriving to Take the Exam

Prior to arriving at University Testing and Scanning Services to take the exam, you need to create an account with ATI. Please go to www.atitesting.com and click on Create New Account. It takes about five minutes to complete this process. If you wish to have your scores sent to ASU's College of Nursing and Health Innovation, please select "AZ State U" from the institution dropdown menu when creating an account. In order to access the test, you will need to enter the ATI user name and password that you create. You MUST bring that information with you when you come to test.

Admission to the Exam

Exam entrance requires a valid photo ID. YOU MUST CHECK IN AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE TEST TIME TO BE ADMITTED. You must also know or have with you your 10-digit ASU affiliate ID number, your ATI account user ID and password in order to take the test.


You will receive a copy of your test scores at the end of your testing period.

Test Center Information

Parking:  Lot 55 - University Center [UCNTRBparking fees are $2/hr or $10/day.  Please pre-pay for your parking before coming to the Testing & Scanning Services Office.  The parking machine, operated by Parking and Transit Services, accepts Visa or MasterCard, and is located by the front entrance to each building.  Please remember your license plate number, as it will be required to make your payment. The Park Mobile parking zone is #60112.  When considering your payment,  all TEAS exams are 4 hours in length including check-in and check-out.
