What to Expect and Frequently Asked Questions
Accuplacer Online (temporary solution) is available to meet the needs of students during the covid-19 situation. Because in-person testing services have been suspended, this option allows you to test from the safety of your home.

Setup and Preparation
Register at https://uoeee.asu.edu/exam/accuplacer and review the rules of the exam (see detail below). Ensure your email address, birthdate, ASUID and the spelling of your name is accurate when registering. If the information you used to register is entered incorrectly, your appointment may be delayed or rescheduled.
Consider adding the date to your calendar so you don’t forget!
You will receive detailed instructions from [email protected] within 3 business days. Follow the email instructions and remember you will need:

- Voucher number provided
- A built-in or external webcam, microphone and speaker
- To utilize a single monitor during the exam.
- To turn off the pop-up blocking technology on your browser BEFORE beginning the exam.
- To disable helper extensions if using Chrome (such as Grammarly) browser during the exam.
Appointment Time
Settle into your private area, hang a do not disturb sign if you have concern about being interrupted, clear the desk and test your tech equipment is functional (also, make sure you are properly dressed).
Check-in takes approximately 30 minutes because the rules will be reviewed. Proctors are required to ensure the integrity of the exam and therefore they must access your computer to look at your desk and surrounding area.
The test proctor guides the check in process and setting up the connection to the ACCUPLACER (WritePlacer) ONLINE exam. You will have 1 hour (60 minutes) after the 30-minute check-in process to answer the essay prompt of the exam. During this time, the proctor will actively monitor your testing activity. Make sure to follow the rules and remember this exam must be completed in one sitting. The exam cannot be saved and finished later.

- You must be alone to take the test, in a PRIVATE room, NOT a public area.
- Keep your ID and voucher number close by.
- Workspace must be clear of all items & well lit.
Technology

- Phones and electronic devices may not be accessed during the exam. They should be set to silent and put away at a distance.
- Headphones/headsets are not permitted.
- Your computer should be connected to a power source.
- Dual monitors are not permitted. If you have one, please unplug one of them.
- The exam must be completed in one sitting. You cannot “save and finish’ later.
- Camera, speaker and microphone must remain on throughout the test.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
What forms of ID are acceptable?
You may use your valid ASU Sun Card, State ID, Driver’s License or Passport. Expired forms of identification are not acceptable.
How long is the ACCUPLACER WritePlacer online exam?
You will have 60 minutes to write an essay on an assigned topic. You will see a countdown timer at the top of the screen that displays the remaining time. Your exam does not begin until you click on “Begin Exam.”
*Note, ASU ONLY uses and only accepts the WritePlacer portion of the ACCUPLACER exam. If you require a different portion of Accuplacer, please contact our office.
How many questions is the ACCUPLACER WritePlacer exam?
You will receive only one (1) prompt to write an essay on during the 60 minutes. Essay topics do not require previous knowledge. The exam does not include multiple-choice or another type of questions. The proctor cannot control the prompt you receive.
How do I study for the exam?

I registered and have not received a voucher/ I registered and did not receive the email I was expecting.
Within 3 business days after registering, you will receive an email with instructions. The email will come from our [email protected] email address. Please check your junk/spam folder of the email address you used to register for the exam as it sometimes is directed to that inbox. If you do not find it, please call our office at 480-965-7146 or email [email protected].
I received the email. Now what do I do?
At your scheduled appointment time, follow the directions in the email you received to check-in with a live online proctor.
How long do I have to use the voucher?
The testing voucher you receive is valid for 90 days from the date it is sent to you. If you do not complete your exam within 90 days, the voucher will expire and you will be required to register and pay the exam registration fee again. Please note that the voucher expires at 12:00 AM on the expiration date you were provided. Therefore, if your voucher has an expiration date of 11/20/2019, the last date you can use the voucher is 11/19/2019.
I am trying to check in to the test, but encountering issues?

During the Computer Requirements Check, some of my features failed, even though I have the recommended features. What do I do?

When will I receive my scores?
Scores are usually available for your viewing immediately after completion. Please note your scores take 3 - 5 business days to appear in My ASU (My Classes > Transcripts & Test Scores). Once you see the results in MyASU you can register for your English class or contact your advisor if needed.
My score report says “pending.” What does that mean?
College Board needs more time to determine your score. Please allow 3-5 business days for your scores to appear on MyASU.
