UOEEE Assessment Newsletter Volume 6, Issue 1 - May 2026
IMPORTANT DATES
Academic Program Review
For academic units undergoing academic program review (APR) in the current 2026-27 cycle, the assessment team is available to assist in retrieving historical assessment report data, writing the reflective essay portion of the self study that addresses student learning outcomes, and completing the required revisions to program assessment plans for the next seven year cycle. Please email [email protected] to schedule a meeting for 1:1 support.
December 2 - Deadline to submit revised assessment plans prior to APR site visits
Annual Assessment Reports (2025-26)
Active academic programs are required to participate in an annual assessment of their program learning outcomes. Within the annual assessment reports, programs will provide a brief summary of their data collection, results, continuous improvement efforts over the past reporting year (June 2025 to May 2026), and plans to impact student learning in the future based on the assessment plan on record.
September 30 - Assessment reports due to college assessment delegates in portal
October 30 - Deadline for delegates to submit completed reports to UOEEE
Note: All programs are encouraged to review their assessment data and complete their assessment reports at the conclusion of each Spring term. This is particularly recommended for programs using Canvas tagging dashboards to ensure all course sections and assessment artifacts are present in the dashboard.
POLICY CHANGES
UOEEE has implemented two policy updates to strengthen consistency and clarity in assessment reporting.
Low Enrollment
The low-enrollment designation, which allowed programs with 20 or fewer students to submit annual assessment reports without collecting student data, will be discontinued. As a result, all active programs will be required to collect assessment data annually. This change will ensure consistent data availability, allow programs to aggregate findings across cycles for annual reporting and APR, and eliminate uncertainty regarding data collection expectations.
Academic Program Review
Programs undergoing Academic Program Review (APR) may elect to pause assessment data collection only in the year following their review. Assessment reports will still be required. Previously, programs could opt out of data collection during either the review year or the subsequent year, which often led to data collection being skipped for both years.
ASSESSMENT NEWS
Assessment Workshops
Thanks to everyone who attended the Assessment Workshops held in February, March and April. Registration for the Fall 2026 Basic and Focus Workshop Series is now open on the Assessment Workshops page.

2024-25 Assessment Cycle Recap
UOEEE has closed out the 2024-25 assessment cycle and reviewed participation in program assessment at the institutional level. Results were encouraging with 96% of programs submitting reports and 82% of programs confirming review of their assessment plans. At the college level, excluding units in Academic Program Review, 9 units had 100% of their programs submit assessment reports, and 2 units had at least 90% of their programs submit assessment reports. For assessment plan reviews, 3 units had 100% of their programs confirming review of their plans, and 5 units had at least 90% of programs reviewed.

CANVAS TAGGING DASHBOARDS
UOEEE has partnered with ASU Enterprise Technology (ET) to offer assessment dashboards to academic units that would like to automate their annual assessment data collection using Canvas tagging. The dashboards allow for assessment data to be disaggregated by academic plan code (major/non-major) and modality (online/immersion) to support annual assessment reporting requirements. Check out the Canvas Tagging page in the Data Collection Module of the UOEEE Assessment Resources in Canvas, Canvas Tagging in Program Assessment Guide and the dashboard prototype.
If you are interested in tagging and would like to discuss it further please contact the UOEEE assessment team at [email protected].
PORTAL IMPROVEMENTS
Several changes have been made to the assessment portal to help support users in completing their assessment plans and reports.
Addition of Enrollment Numbers
Enrollment numbers for the current assessment year and the last three years are available under the plan code near the top left of assessment plans and reports.

These numbers are drawn from Peoplesoft (ASU Data Warehouse) and include all unique major students enrolled under a particular academic plan code in any Summer, Fall and Spring term of the prior year. Please note that:
- Students who “double-major” are counted under each applicable academic plan code.
- Students who change majors during the year are counted under each academic plan code.
This information can be used by faculty and delegates when completing and reviewing annual reports as a gauge for determining the quality of their data collection. Data in excess of the total enrollment suggests that the data was not disaggregated for program majors. Data below 15-20% of the total enrollment suggests data on all program majors may not have been collected.
Addition to UOEEE Review and Archives
Programs are now able to review their rubric scores and feedback along when viewing their achieved assessment reports. When a specific assessment report is selected the rubric with scores and feedback will be visible on the right hand side. This will allow programs to review prior feedback to assist in improving the quality of assessment reports.
